I Know You Tried

I went to your street At seven in the mornin' And while you were asleep I read your newspaper I saw you out walkin' Out walkin' with your father Pretendin' not to see me Pretendin' to be a family I know you tried, baby I know you tried I know you tried to go on Saw a metal object Lyin' in the street And when we turned away It stood itself up You circled the island In a Chevy caprice You stuck out your tongue And your nose began to bleed I know you tried, baby I know you tried I know you tried to go on I know you tried, baby I know you tried I know you tried to go on
